Why it matters
Gatik and Walmart say their Bentonville route, run without a safety driver from August 2021, was the first driverless middle-mile commercial delivery route anywhere.
Real-world use
Moved to freight-only (no one on board) operations in mid-2025 and announced driverless operation at scale in January 2026 for large retailers in Texas, Arkansas and Arizona, with Nebraska and Ontario named in later reports.
