Volvo Autonomous Solutions quarry trucks

Autona earth, Volvo FH

Autonomy-ready Volvo trucks driven by the Volvo Virtual Driver and sold as a transport-as-a-service package, so the customer buys tonnes moved rather than trucks. The flagship site hauls limestone through steep tunnels at Brønnøy Kalk in Norway.

Why it matters

Volvo said removing the safety driver at Brønnøy Kalk in September 2023 was an industry first for an active commercial mining operation.

Real-world use

Nine autonomous trucks run a 5 km quarry-to-crusher route at Brønnøy Kalk, and the service also worked at Boliden Garpenberg in Sweden (Volvo, Sept 2026).

Picked by the same rules for every robot: another maker’s robot that moves the same way, is at the same stage and does at least one of the same main jobs, first shown within two years. Closer size and price rank higher. Few robots match closely, so these are the nearest matches. How we choose
