Movement
Walks on legs · 32 joints
Actuators & motors
A Torque Servo Module in every joint, combining motor, reduction gear and a highly sensitive Cr-N alloy thin-film torque sensor; developed with Tamagawa Seiki and Nidec Copal Electronics. Toyota's spec table lists 32 axes (IEEE Spectrum calls them 32 torque-controlled degrees of freedom).
Hands
Toyota's spec table lists 10 fingers; no further hand details published.
Sensors & vision
Joint torque sensors that measure forces on and by the robot and feed them back to the operator.
AI & software
Remote-controlled through Toyota's Master Maneuvering System: wearable master arms, a master foot for walking in place, a data glove and a head-mounted display showing the robot's view (16 master control systems, 16 axes). Self-interference prevention and whole-body balance control run automatically.
Other details
1,540 mm tall, 75 kg. The operator station itself weighs 170 kg. Force feedback lets the operator feel contact forces.

Side by side with its peers

Picked by the same rules for every humanoid: another maker’s robot that moves the same way, is at the same stage and does at least one of the same main jobs, first shown within two years. Closer size and price rank higher. Few robots match closely, so these are the nearest matches. How we choose
